We gathered for a very refreshing pint of Henderson beer, some photos, chatting and then the moment we'd all been waiting for...the reveal of the 2016 Scotia Toronto Waterfront medal! Leading up to the event there'd been lots of guesses as to what would grace the front of the medal for 2016. I'd thought perhaps St. Lawrence Market, the Distillery or Casa Loma. Before I left for the event my husband had said, "I bet it's the Toronto sign."
Alas, I should have listened!
This year's medal is the first ever in colour--and features the iconic colourful Toronto sign with Nathan Phillips Square in the background. The largest gold medal will go to runners of the marathon, the silver to the half-marathoners and smaller but still hefty bronze medal to those running the 5K race. In my opinion, this is best possible medal design for STWM. Nathan Phillips Square signifies meeting spot of friends and family on the chilly morning of race day. It also signifies the finish, reconnecting with those same family and friends, getting refueled, taking photos and celebrating our accomplishments. The Toronto sign is a reminder that this is a world class city and world class race. I can only imagine the number of photos this sign is going to be in on October 16th!
Great job Canada Running Series! I can't wait till race day to earn mine.
