After finishing and grabbing a snack, we drove to the next major exchange where within minutes the monsters of van 1 were snoring away! Thankfully Janice who was on the team last year and was volunteering for us, traveled over to say hi! With the 3:00 am time, darkness, broken bathrooms and trying to get Maria and Kate ready (they were running their legs together) we forgot a photo!
More darkness followed with an exchange at a very windy waterfront to Carmy. We drove with the rising sun to the next exchange. I updated social media and went for a walk to stay awake while the rest of the van slept.
Here comes Carmy! I can't say enough about how impressed I was with this girl during this race! She did AMAZING.
There is something special about the last leg of Ragnar. Knowing you are about to have put in as much as you can for your team. That 1K marker was worth taking the moment to pause and snap a photo.
This is a case of the photos look better than you imagined it to look while doing it. The huge snap bracelet wind up to Michael.
Leg 3 map and gear.
Erik and Michael on their final legs
The last major exchange! Leanne is looking psyched about her last leg.
Looking pretty good for a bunch of people that haven't really slept!
Another of my favourite Reebok / Ragnar pics!
Knowing we'd get this coffee was a huge motivator for my last leg!
You know you are tired when you start falling asleep on park benches and dressing exactly like your friends.
Arriving in Niagara Falls!
Crazy fast visit with Melly!
Waiting for Ron on the very last leg!
Earning that extra medal!
Our favourite New Yorker leads the way to the finish!
Apparently that escarpment hill and tourist dodging did not phase him in his sprint to the finish! We had a hard time keeping up!
So glad I was the one to be able to put this hard earned, well deserved medal around the neck of our captain Allison!
I have this angle on FB live video! Ha ha!
WE DID IT!
We are Ragnarians. Together we can accomplish anything!
This photo does not even begin to describe how tired we were here!
One last team gathering (while Ron travels home to the US) to celebrate, wish Kate a happy birthday and say thank you to our driver Nanlee and captain Allison!
Prep for leg 2 in Pickering! Reebok / Ragnar tattoos, matchy-mathcy outfits, van tidying, and of course more photos!
A couple snaps of Van 2's Allison, Roy and Ron killing their first legs!
Sunset team chats
Our tagging magnet collection is growing!
Trying to grab a photo AND beat Maria to her exchange!
Getting suited up for my second leg! This one finishes at my workplace and travels my 8K run commute route.
Pretty excited about this one.
Safety first! Fun second!
So much fun on the last 50 meters! Maria waiting for me at our gawck door, my hubby Erick waiting with the dogs near the finish, running the last 10 meters with Miley and the monster pop-up-shop!
Our view at the Cherry Street exchange was breathtaking.
One of my top 5 Ragnar 2018 photos.
We'd missed seeing Nancy who'd volunteered earlier in the evening for our team, but we got to see Lisa at the very dark Ontario Place major exchange bridge.
We'd been planning this stop for a month.
Leg 2 map (this was my fastest, favourite and best!) and gear (I swapped the long sleeve for a tank as it was far warmer than anticipated!)
4:30 wake up call!
Monster lobby take over!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATE!
Van 1 arrives in Cobourg at 6:00 ready for check in!
These bibs and slap bracelet are about to go FAR!
Maria was starting our team off at 7:00 am!
Our home for the next two days...pilot and copilot cockpit looking well lived in already!
Handing off the baton with a hug! GO birthday girl go!
Kate coming in from a very hilly first leg to pass the bracelet to Carmy!
Check out my parking skills!
Getting ready for my first leg. Somewhere in farmland heading towards Newcastle.
Run views...a van of monsters drove by, and a foggy farm that looked way better in person
Left...the top of a very long hill that looked way steeper in person. Right, how I felt about that hill when I rejoined my team.
Parked at the major exchange. Apparently Maria decided to lower the van. Let the van tagging with monsters begin!
The team waiting for Erik to finish a very hot 16K
A very warm major exchange
Van 2 chilling before their first leg
Van 1 makes a pit stop for more Gatorade, birthday cupcakes (shhhh!) and photos by Mom W!
First leg map and gear!
Location: Reebok Canada HQ.
Forecast: Very windy, sunny, very grey clouds in distance.
Goal: Get two Endorphriends vans decorated with monsters!
Some Endorphriends were better at applying decals than others...that said, the wind didn't make it easy for anyone!
I volunteered to share weekend piloting duties of this beast with Maria...having never driven one before.
What could go wrong?
Notice a trend? Thankfully this year's storm didn't hit until we'd finished decorating and gone for dinner.
During dinner we found out Carmy had some amazing pizza slicing skills!
Also gave out all the Endorphriends shirts...with a few bonus gifts inside!
Endorphriend vans snoozing side by side in the hotel parking lot in Bowmanville.
Meanwhile two sneaky monsters traded sleep for blowing up countless balloons, hanging streamers and decorations for our fellow monster's birthday the next day!
Due to a busy production schedule, the Endorphriends decals were almost literally hot off the presses for the race!
Thanks gawck for creating the amazing decals!
2017 Ragnar trail Cottage Country runners may remember these! We decided to create new cards and re-purpose the leftover puffball packs as an alternate to van tagging magnets!
I couldn't resist putting together some little bonus items for my teammates. Monster decals, team logo decals, monster buttons and an Endorphriend wrap bracelet for new team members!
This year we were able to make the shirts ourselves at gawck!
Gift packs made! And another little surprise, a monster for each van to help navigate.
In an effort to keep fueling close to normal, I prepacked my peanut butter sandwich breakfasts.
Sadly my orange nailpolish with white Ragnar logos would never made it to our teammates' toes.
