Given this fun run was to be the day after many runners had participated in local races, I thought a very easy shake out run would be in order! When I was trying to think of a theme, I couldn't help but be influenced by Reebok's glowing Floatride image below. I'd say the bright colours are perhaps my favourite thing about my Floatrides runners. At Ragnar, we'll each be running an overnight leg and it was a perfect opportunity to practice running at night and enjoy some of the sights and sounds that will surround us on May 19th!
Given I was the one planning the run, I took a moment to say a few words to the runners before we got running. I am not much of a public speaker, but I think the exhaustion from racing the day before helped keep my nerves somewhat in check! I was glad I had written out what I planned to say ahead of time though!
I'll copy it here...
In 10 days we will be packing our gear, decorating our vans and picking up our bibs for a 300k relay from Cobourg to Niagara. What you may not know is that along the way, Reebok Canada is actually going to be following our team's journey! (I'm hoping that they make us look as fast as Michelle and Ben!) They'll have photographer jumping into our vans with us on from the start when we're all excited and smell good, as well as in the middle of the night, when we're sleep deprived and probably a little stinky!
If you're like me, you wouldn't typically think running when it comes to Reebok, right? Well, they are out to change our minds about that. Our team has been trying out their gear for the past week or so and we've been totally impressed!
I believe Reebok is currently most proud of the Floatride shoes that my team is wearing today and will be wearing for the race as well. I don't know about you, but I thought they looked totally cool and unlike anything I'd seen before when I first saw them.
But they don't just look unique and cool. This Floatride foam is a landmark step for Reebok and is engineered to provide an optimal mix of softness and responsiveness. The ultraknit upper is flexible, supportive, breathable and soooo comfy! (I love moving my toes around in these shoes!) And lastly, the support rim centres and balances your foot throughout your running gait cycle. Combined, these elements create a shoe with ultimate cushioning and responsiveness.
If you want more info on them, you can ask us, or go to Reebok Canada's website. They are now available for sale there, as well as a few still left at Rosedale and Whitby Running Rooms.
So we wil head out on our run which is a super easy 5k. We'll head over to University to Bloor, over to Bay and back down here to the sign. We have some water and great prizes from Reebok when we get back as well!
This fun run will be held in Ajax, where the Ragnar route will be taking us the following week. The theme of this run is Be More Human. In addition to our run, we will be accepting donations of children's pyjamas and toiletries to a local emergency women's shelter. Details below, or see the Facebook event page.
